Job Description

Scope and General Purpose:

The position has responsibility for maintaining the grounds and keeping golf course turf in playing condition. Position focuses on ensuring guest and employee satisfaction and achieving the operating budget.

Main Duties:

  • Evaluate and implement new technologies, equipment and supplies.
  • Consults with management to plan and review work projects.
  • Determine work priorities related to specific tasks such as fertilizing, irrigating, seeding, mowing, raking and spraying.
  • Ensure all gardens/lawns and plantings are properly watered, fertilized and cared for to promote healthy growth and prevent problems.
  • Ensure compliance with all Grounds departmental policies, standards and procedures.
  • Ensure contractors quality of work and compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance to facility regulations and safety standards.
  • Maintain inventory of irrigation and other critical items.
  • Manage the overall look of the gardens/lawns care and maintenance, irrigation, horticultural/pruning, weed control, pest and disease control.
  • Keep the equipment maintained and operating at optimum effectiveness, efficiency and safety.
  • Maintains accurate logs and records as required.
  • Manages parts, supplies and equipment inventories within budget.
  • Mix and prepare recommended spray and dust solutions.
  • Recognize potential problems and take corrective action.
  • Understand and comply with loss prevention policies and procedures.
  • Understand staff positions well enough to perform duties in staff absence.
  • Walk through the garden/lawn areas on a daily basis to ensure clean up and job assignments are being followed.
  • Create a positive atmosphere for members/guests relations.
  • Provide services that are above and beyond for members/guests satisfaction.
  • Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Keep up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge to job.
  • Completion of duty schedules. Schedule staff as necessary to ensure adequate and consistent levels of service.
  • Following of proper purchasing and requisitioning procedures.
  • Develop and maintain all department control procedures.
  • Develop and maintain department manuals.
  • Deal with members/guests complaints.
  • Responsible fr attitude and appearance.
  • Responsible for teamwork/relations with sub-ordinates, peers and superiors.
  • Responsible for staff training and development.
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practices, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
  • Effectively delegate responsibilities to sub ordinates.
  • Attend various meetings and action/communicate instructions.
  • Undertake continuous training and development
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems.
  • Ensure that the health, safety and environmental policies and procedures are complied with and to ensure the safety of members/guests and staff.
  • Manage, coach and develop a high performing Horticulture team that meets agreed objectives and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements.
  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviors expected of them
  • Manage and lead the team of Horticulture staff ensuring adequate staffing levels
  • Motivate and coach the team to operational success
  • Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure good performance and record.
  • Review, implement and update Club records e.g. training matrices, performance reviews.
  • Prepare the annual budget and forecasts and all Capital Expenditure proposals.
  • Work as part of the Management team to share ideas and improve operation, recommending, supporting and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimize results and improve quality of delivery, in line with quality standards requirements.
  • Liaise and communicate with other departments, suppliers/vendors and other service providers.
  • Support, comply and ensure complicity with Health & Safety regulations, the Club Handbook, Quality and Environmental standards, and all other Club policies and procedures
  • Support, encourage and develop team and take ownership for team cohesion
  • Proactively contribute to creating a good team atmosphere
  • Respond to emergency calls for maintenance.
  • Perform administrative tasks as required.
  • Recommend applicants for employment or for discipline, termination or retention.
  • Ensure proper equipment and supplies are available in good condition to complete various jobs.
  • Maintains records of jobs performed and hours worked by staff members.
  • Conduct briefings with all concerned staff.
  • Follow Club policies, procedures and service standards
  • Manage team members fairly and take personal interest in knowing them all.
  • Project a positive and motivated attitude amongst all staff members.
  • Approve work schedules, leave applications and overtime payments of staff members.
  • Delegate responsibilities to subordinates as required.
  • Coach and counsel staff members in a timely manner and in accordance with Club policy.
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses and provide timely feedback to the individual.
  • Other duties as assigned by the management.
